About Us

Echo of Freedom is a nonprofit organization based in New York, with a presence in Mauritania. Founded in May 2025, we work for civil rights, democratic participation, and development in Africa and around the world. We bring together people from different countries and communities who share one belief: dignity, truth, and a voice in public life belong to everyone. Through civic engagement, education, and art, we create space for dialogue, understanding, and lasting change.

Our mission

Our mission is to unite voices for freedom and democracy across every border. We stand with communities that are too often overlooked, carry their stories further, and work with them to strengthen democratic values. Our aim is to give hope a lasting, public voice.

Founder

Founder portrait
Nebil Soumare, founder of Echo of Freedom.

Nebil Soumare is a Mauritanian civil and political rights activist based in New York. He founded Echo of Freedom because of the challenges his generation grew up witnessing in the world. As a civil and political rights activist, his work is guided by a commitment to dignity, freedom, and the right of every person to be heard.

Through awareness campaigns, especially for African communities, he brings attention to voices and stories that rarely reach the public. His work for development, reform, and democracy rests on one conviction: lasting change begins when people come together to defend freedom.

Nebil’s goal is to build Echo of Freedom into a major global force for human rights and democracy, one that is led by the communities it serves and recognized worldwide for its impact.

The founder’s most famous quote

“You cannot claim to stand for human rights while choosing which humans matter. Justice is for everyone or it’s not justice at all.”

— Nebil Soumare, Founder of Echo of Freedom
